Over 1,500 people rise early every Saturday morning to take part in one of the various parkrun events across the UK and we want to help extend this opportunity to more aspiring runners. The events are free to enter and have no age restriction, making them a great place to start a running journey.

Our team of Sport Scientists regularly attend parkrun events to offer education and advice on how hydration and nutrition can give runners a performance edge. No matter what your running goal, they will be able to offer you hints and tips on performance, samples of relevant Lucozade Sport products and key insights from the world of sports science.

Why not check out our parkrun calendar to find out when the Lucozade Sport Science Team will be visiting your local parkrun event.

Lucozade Sport Scientist, Gareth Nicholas shares his Top Tips

Running means something to everything, regardless of your ability or goal. Having run countless parkruns myself, I know that by following a few simple rules you can make great steps towards a perfect race.

  1. Start drinking as soon as you wake up

To make sure you’re adequately hydrated before the race starts – water or Lucozade Sport Lite are ideal.

  2. Wear the appropriate clothing

With UK weather being dramatically variable, be prepared for rain, hale or wind.

  3. Have a light breakfast, predominantly carbohydrate based

This will ensure that you are fuelled for the run – if you can’t stomach breakfast an energy bar or sports drink should be fine.

  4. Get to the start in good time

So that you feel relaxed and ready to run.

  5. Rehydrate and refuel as soon as possible after the race

This is the 'window of opportunity'; use good nutrition to help your recovery.

  6. Don’t forget to get your barcode scanned

    Otherwise it won’t count.

Of course there is an alternative to this if you are perhaps out that little too late on Friday night or push the snooze button one too many times on Saturday morning! You just need to choose the right strategy that works for you.

Irrespective of the tips you use, have a great run and start the weekend off as you mean to go on – don’t forget we’re at loads of parkruns up and down the country so make sure that you check out our parkrun page (to link to tab three) to find your next visit.

Parkrun - Run Free Events

Whether you’re running has you competing in races across the globe or out and about to blow the cobwebs away on a Saturday morning, Lucozade Sport and parkrun are here to support you at every step. By celebrating individual ability as a group of likeminded people we know that we can make something truly amazing happen.

The Challenge

You can get up and running at your local parkrun 5K on any Saturday morning, but make a special point to come along on Saturday 29th May with your friends and family to enjoy an extra special experience. If you're fresh to running, the friendly atmosphere will really make your running a 'walk in the park'.

What’s going on?

This one’s for you, we're leaving it up to the people who attend to make it unique. We've giving each of the 30 locations a special parkrun - run free goodie bag with cake ingredients, teas and coffee items, biscuits and picnic rugs, but as the runners on the day we're asking you to make your event special. For more information about how you can help head over to the Lucozade Sport pages on parkrun.com.

How can I get involved?

As simple as the running itself, head to parkrun.com and register before Friday 28th May. It's free, so whilst you're there, why not sign up family, friends and colleagues.

You can also spread the word by downloading the event poster and putting it up in your nearest shop, community centre, office or anywhere else you think people will see it to encourage as many people as possible to come along.

What next?

If you're out to settle some friendly rivalry or improve an existing time why not download a 5K training plan to get ahead of the game. If it's more about taking part then head to your nearest event this weekend and find out what it’s all about, find out more at www.parkrun.com.
